The Allen & Heath SQ-5 is a 48-channel, 96kHz digital mixer in a compact, rack-mountable frame. It has 16+1 motorized faders on 6 layers and 16 local mic inputs. It also has 12 stereo mixes plus LR, 3 stereo matrices and 8 stereo FX engines. A 7-inch touchscreen and 8 assignable SoftKeys sit on its surface. In addition, a Fast Ethernet port gives MIDI over TCP/IP control. Showcaller AI uses that port to run the Allen & Heath SQ-5 by voice or chat.

### How Showcaller connects to the Allen & Heath SQ-5

Showcaller talks to the SQ-5 through the Showcaller Bridge App on your show network. It uses TCP port 51325. First, note the console’s MIDI channel under Utility, General, MIDI. Then set the NRPN fader law to Linear Taper, so levels in dB stay accurate. After that, the operator can ask **mute the audience mics** or **Aux 3 down 2 dB**. They can also ask **more lectern in the presenter’s in-ear** or **pull DCA 2 down**. Showcaller reads mutes and levels back from the console after each change. If they do not match, it tells you. The [Allen & Heath SQ integration](/integrations/allen-heath-sq/) page lists every Tool Function.

### What is specific to the SQ-5

The SQ-5 has 8 SoftKeys, while the SQ-6 and SQ-7 have 16. So on this console, Showcaller presses SoftKeys 1 to 8. Each key fires whatever it is set to do, such as tap tempo or talkback. Allen & Heath also sells an SQ-5 Rack Kit for a 12U rack mount. That suits a side rack or a booth with little desk space. Meanwhile, the mix engine is the same on all three SQ consoles. As a result, input, Aux, FX and DCA control work just as they do on a larger SQ.

### Tool Functions by plan

Starter covers input faders and mutes into the main LR mix. It also covers the Main LR master and the 12 Aux/Mix masters, with reads for each. Pro adds each input’s send to an Aux/Mix and to FX 1 to 4. It also adds FX return levels, the 8 DCAs and the 8 mute groups. Finally, Enterprise adds the SoftKeys and scene recall from 1 to 300. Because a recall replaces the live mix, Showcaller asks you to confirm it first. For full specs, see Allen & Heath’s [SQ-5 product page](https://www.allen-heath.com/hardware/sq/sq-5/).
