BirdDog Studio NDI converter
Showcaller AI keeps existing BirdDog Studio NDI converters in the show by voice or chat. It switches the NDI source, reads status and sets encode, decode and NDI group settings.

Overview
The BirdDog Studio NDI converter with Showcaller
The BirdDog Studio NDI was BirdDog’s first NDI encoder and decoder. It has 3G-SDI and HDMI inputs and outputs and works up to 1080p60 with full NDI. BirdDog no longer sells it but still supports it. So many rigs still have one in the rack. Showcaller AI connects to the BirdDog Studio NDI through the Bridge App on your show network. Then you check and change it by voice or chat. The BirdDog NDI converter integration page lists every Tool Function.
Sources on a BirdDog Studio NDI
When the Studio decodes, Showcaller lists the NDI sources it can see. Then it connects the decoder to a source by name. Because a switch changes the picture, Showcaller asks you to confirm it first. After the switch, it reads the decode status to check the new source. It also tells you which source is connected right now. When a source is missing, Showcaller refreshes the list. These functions are in every plan.
Encode, decode and NDI settings
From the Pro plan, Showcaller reads and changes both encode and decode settings. For example, BirdDog lists the stream name, bitrate mode, tally and NDI audio. It also sets the encode and decode transport, such as TCP, UDP or multicast. In addition, Showcaller sets the NDI group name, the discovery server and off-subnet sources. It sets the analog audio gain and output select, too. Then it reads back the group name, discovery server and audio settings. However, encode settings, decode settings and transport are reported as the converter answered.
Mode and recovery
Showcaller reads whether the Studio is in encode or decode mode. Meanwhile, the video output interface function does not apply, because BirdDog’s API has none on the Studio. With Enterprise, Showcaller resets the NDI source list, restarts video or reboots the unit. It asks you before each of these steps. For full specs, see BirdDog’s Studio NDI page.
What you can do
Run the BirdDog Studio NDI converter by voice or chat
Switch the source by name
List the NDI sources the Studio sees and connect the decoder to one. Showcaller confirms first, then checks the decode status. Starter.
Encode and decode settings
Read or change encode and decode settings, plus the NDI transport for each direction. Pro.
Groups and discovery
Set the NDI group name, discovery server and off-subnet sources. Group and server changes are read back. Pro.
Analog audio
Read or set the analog audio in and out gain and the output select. Pro.
Recovery steps
Reset the NDI source list, restart video or reboot the Studio, after you confirm. Enterprise.

Connection
Connecting the BirdDog Studio NDI converter
- Control protocol
- BirdDog's RESTful API over HTTP on port 8080, through the Showcaller Bridge App. The API needs no password.
- What Showcaller needs
- The converter's IP address, for example from BirdDog Central or the unit's LED display, and the model BirdDog Studio.
- Network
- Connect the converter to the same network as the computer running the Bridge App. Port 80 is the BirdUI web page; Showcaller uses port 8080.
- Firmware
- Built on BirdDog's REST API 2.0. Showcaller reads the firmware version when it connects.
- First check
- Showcaller runs Get device info, then lists the NDI sources the converter can see.

FAQ
Questions about the BirdDog Studio NDI converter
Does Showcaller still support the BirdDog Studio NDI?
Yes. BirdDog no longer sells the Studio NDI but still supports it. Showcaller keeps it as a model for existing installs, with the same Tool Functions as the newer converters except the video output interface.
Can Showcaller change the source on a BirdDog Studio NDI decoder?
Yes, in every plan. Showcaller asks you to confirm, connects the decoder to the NDI source by name, then reads the decode status to check the switch.
Does the Studio NDI send NDI HX?
No. BirdDog says the Studio NDI encodes and decodes full YUV 4:2:2 NDI only, up to 1080p60.
Which plan sets the NDI group name?
Pro. It covers the NDI group name, discovery server, off-subnet sources, encode and decode settings, transport and analog audio. Showcaller reads back the group name after a change.
