MA Lighting grandMA2 full-size

Showcaller AI runs playback on a grandMA2 full-size by voice or chat. It fires sequences and cues, presses executors and sets faders. It also switches executor pages and runs macros.

Overview

The MA Lighting grandMA2 full-size with Showcaller

The grandMA2 full-size is the largest console in MA Lighting’s grandMA2 range. It has 30 motorized executor faders and three built-in touchscreens. MA Lighting now lists it in its product archive as discontinued. Showcaller AI connects to the console over your show network through the Bridge App. Then it runs playback by voice or chat, so the operator keeps both hands on the desk. The MA Lighting grandMA2 integration page lists every function.

Executors and pages on the grandMA2 full-size

The full-size has the most physical playback of the grandMA2 consoles. MA lists 30 motorized executor faders, and a fader wing adds up to 60 more. With Pro, Showcaller presses Go or Off on an executor you name by page and number. It also moves an executor fader to a level from 0 to 100 percent. For example, ask for executor 5 on page 2 at 80 percent. In addition, Showcaller switches the active executor page. Then it reads the page back from the console, so the change is confirmed.

Sequences, cues and macros

Every plan includes sequence playback. First, Showcaller fires Go on a sequence or jumps to the cue number you name. It also steps a sequence back a cue, pauses or resumes it, and turns it off. Macros stored in the show file run by number. For anything else, Enterprise adds the command line. There, Showcaller types the command exactly as you would on the desk. However, macros, the command line and every Off command wait for your confirmation first.

What Showcaller confirms on a grandMA2 full-size

Showcaller logs in with a user account from the show file. It reads the console’s reply to every command. So when the console refuses a command, Showcaller reports a failure. Page changes are read back, as described above. However, the grandMA2 does not report playback state in a form Showcaller can read yet. As a result, a Go or a fader move is reported as accepted, not checked against the stage. For full specs, see MA Lighting’s grandMA2 full-size page.

FAQ

Questions about the MA Lighting grandMA2 full-size

Can Showcaller move the executor faders on a grandMA2 full-size?

Yes, from the Pro plan. It moves an executor fader, chosen by page and number, to a level from 0 to 100 percent. It also presses Go or Off on an executor.

Does Showcaller confirm that a cue ran?

It confirms that the console accepted the command, and it reports a refusal as a failure. Page changes are read back. However, Showcaller cannot read playback state from a grandMA2 yet. So it does not check a Go or a fader move against the stage.

Which user does Showcaller log in as?

The user name and password you save on the connection. MA Lighting suggests a separate user for Telnet control. Note that the active executor page is read for that user.

What needs my confirmation?

Running a macro, sending a command-line instruction and turning a sequence or executor off. Showcaller asks before it sends any of these.

Is the grandMA3 full-size covered here?

No. The grandMA3 consoles use a different integration with a different network setup. See the grandMA3 full-size page.
