Blackmagic ATEM SDI Series
Showcaller AI runs the compact ATEM SDI switchers by voice or chat. It switches inputs, routes the SDI aux outputs and runs keyers and macros. On the Pro ISO and Extreme ISO, it also controls streaming and recording.

Overview
The Blackmagic ATEM SDI Series with Showcaller
The ATEM SDI family is Blackmagic Design’s compact 3G-SDI switcher range. It has three models: the base model, the Pro ISO and the Extreme ISO. Blackmagic describes them as similar to the ATEM Mini, but with SDI connections and twice the outputs. Each SDI output is a true aux output. Showcaller AI connects to the switcher’s Ethernet port through the Bridge App. Then it runs the switcher by voice or chat. The Blackmagic ATEM integration page lists every function.
SDI aux routing on ATEM SDI switchers
Aux routing is where these models differ most from an HDMI Mini. The ATEM SDI and SDI Pro ISO have two SDI outputs, while the Extreme ISO has four. Each output can carry its own source, such as a camera return, a confidence monitor or an encoder feed. With Pro, Showcaller reads what an aux output shows and sends a new source to it. In every plan, it also cuts, runs Auto transitions and fades to black. Inputs are listed by the names set on the switcher.
What applies to each model
The three models do not share every feature. For example, the base ATEM SDI has no streaming engine or recorder in Blackmagic’s specs. So Showcaller’s streaming and recording functions do not apply there. In contrast, the Pro ISO and Extreme ISO stream over RTMP or SRT. They also record each input as a separate file, plus the program. On those, Showcaller starts and stops both, and reports any disk or encoder error (Pro). Similarly, only the Extreme ISO has a Super Source. There, Enterprise arranges its four boxes in a preset layout, or sets one box.
Keyers, macros and Fairlight audio
From the Pro plan, Showcaller puts keyers on or off air and sets their fill and key sources. The two four-input models have one upstream and one downstream keyer. Meanwhile, the Extreme ISO has four and two. Showcaller also runs or stops macros recorded on the switcher. All three models use the Fairlight mixer, so Fairlight EQ and dynamics apply (Enterprise). For full specs, see Blackmagic’s ATEM SDI page.
What you can do
Run the Blackmagic ATEM SDI Series by voice or chat
SDI aux routing
Read what an SDI aux output shows or send a new source to it, for returns, monitors and encoders. Pro.
Switch by input name
Cut, run an Auto transition or fade to black. Set the transition style and rate. Starter.
Keyers and macros
Put upstream and downstream keyers on or off air and set their sources. Run or stop macros on the switcher. Pro.
Stream and record on Pro ISO and Extreme ISO
Start and stop the RTMP/SRT stream and the ISO recorder. Get a report of any disk or encoder error. Pro.
Super Source on the Extreme ISO
Arrange the four Super Source boxes in one of seven preset layouts, or set one box's source, position and size. Enterprise.

Connection
Connecting the Blackmagic ATEM SDI Series
- Control protocol
- Blackmagic ATEM network protocol over UDP on your local network, through the Showcaller Bridge App
- What Showcaller needs
- The switcher's IP address. No username or password is needed on the ATEM.
- Network
- Connect the switcher's Ethernet port to the same network as the computer running the Bridge App. Blackmagic sets the switcher's IP address with ATEM Setup Utility over a direct USB connection.
- Switcher software
- ATEM software 9.x
- First check
- After connecting, Showcaller runs Get status. It then reads the topology to learn how many keyers, aux outputs and Super Sources this switcher has.

FAQ
Questions about the Blackmagic ATEM SDI Series
Can Showcaller change what an ATEM SDI output shows?
Yes, from the Pro plan. Blackmagic describes the SDI outputs as true aux outputs. Showcaller reads the source on each and sends a new one.
Can Showcaller start streaming on the base ATEM SDI?
No. Blackmagic's specs list no streaming engine or recorder on the ATEM SDI. The streaming and recording functions work on the SDI Pro ISO and SDI Extreme ISO.
Which ATEM SDI model supports Super Source?
Only the ATEM SDI Extreme ISO. On it, Showcaller arranges Super Source layouts and boxes from the Enterprise plan.
Which audio functions apply?
All three models use the Fairlight mixer. So the Fairlight functions apply (Enterprise): EQ, compressor, gate, limiter and makeup gain per input, plus master EQ and compressor. The classic Audio Mixer functions do not apply.
Is this the same as the larger SDI switchers?
No. The ATEM Constellation and Television Studio switchers have their own page, with multiple M/Es and more aux outputs.
